A Memorable Book

The Library of Congress and the Book-of-the-Month Club conducted a "Survey of Lifetime Reading Habits" in the fall of 1991. They discovered that To Kill a Mockingbird was second only to the Bible as one of the books “most often cited as making a difference” in people’s lives.

Harper Lee to receive Medal of Freedom

Harper Lee is being awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award. She is receiving this honor for her contribution to American literature.

Word Up!

As part of One County - One Book, we are holding Word Up!, a spoken word contest for high school students (grades 9-12). The students will write and perform an original work inspired by To Kill a Mockingbird.

Calling All Book Groups

We invite all book groups to participate with us. Help us spread the word about One County - One Book. Our goal is for the whole county (Jefferson County, Alabama) to read and celebrate To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee during April 2008.
