My Favorite Part of the BookI first read To Kill a Mockingbird when I was in my early twenties. I knew that it was my elder sister's favorite book and I liked it a lot. Now that I am in my mid-forties, I am listening to it. Sissy Spacek is the narrator and she does an excellent job. Her southern accent is just right. Last night on my way home from work, I listened to my favorite part. Atticus has gone to sit outside the jail to keep a mob from getting to Tom Robinson. It is when Scout talks to Mr. Cunningham and then he and the rest of the men who have come to do harm to Tom Robinson leave. I love how she reaches out to Mr. Cunningham. She is trying to be friendly and make him more comfortable. What she really does is remind him of his humanity. The next morning at breakfast Atticus says "you children last night made Walter Cunningham stand in my shoes for a minute. That was enough."
