Town Of Maycomb
jlynne Both of my sons read To Kill A Mockingbird as part of their required reading in high school. They are now 25 and 22. I am reading the copy they both read in school with all their notes and highlighted passages. When we discussed the book back then, they found it hard to believe that my childhood neighborhood was similar to Maycomb in that all the neighbors knew your mom and dad and knew exactly what you should and shouldn't be doing. And they were quick to correct you if you were doing something wrong!
Many of us grew up in
Many of us grew up in similar "towns" I grew up in Birmingham but my neighborhood was the same. People visited outside in the evenings and neighbor children played across each other's yards. Now, everyone is fenced in and no one is just visiting outside in the evenings. I think we have lost something.
