I have seen the movie a few times but never read the book. I could not put it down until I was through. My mother-in-law was a child in the South in the 30's and she said the book was just as she remembered her childhood. There are many great scenes, but one of my favorites is when Scout and Jem make a morphodite snowman with a mud base. It reminded me of last weekend when I drove down the street late afternoon after the snow and saw a 15 inch high snow creature. The front yard was devoid of snow except for this small creation. I couldn't tell if it had originally been a snowman or a snowdog. As a 10 year-old child in Wichita, Kansas, I remember a mid-April snow. I made a snowbunny the week before Easter. A newspaper photographer took a picture of me with it, and the picture was in the paper.
